Welcome to Centrepoint
Centrepoint is a welcoming English speaking organization with nearly 1'000 family memberships of diverse nationalities. It exists to encourage and support with integration of the international community in Basel, Switzerland through its resources, programs, activities, and English language library. Located at the historical Lohnhof in central Basel, it is a unique meeting place for building and strengthening a sense of community among expatriates of all nationalities and Swiss living in the Basel regions.

Centrepoint Library Update

The English language book library at Centrepoint is undergoing restructuring! Your comments and desires are being incorporated into a new concept. The look and feel of our two rooms will change, many additional topic categories are being added, and a new operating system will be implemented.
As an independent organization, the American Women's Club of Basel has decided to align with the ABG Public Library system. The relocation of the AWC book collection scheduled for this December marks the end of a 15 year long relationship with Centrepoint. We offer our appreciation, and thank the AWC for what has been an adventure that has unquestionably brought mutual benefit to both organizations.
Although not so evident to the public eye, and allowing for summer holiday time, things are progressing nicely with the Centrepoint Library Project. No fewer than four professional Librarians (Annie Troedsson, Hilary Ireland, Doris Nett, and Joanna Lonergan) have been planning the library system, reviewing specialized software, and considering which book categories are desired. Book and DVD donations are being gathered. Ian assures us that he is pre-checking all materials for ‘nasties’ (both crawly critters and offensive material) before accepting items into storage.
Centrepoint has accepted a generous offer to ship an assortment of children’s books to get that section started. Other offers have come in for special pricing on book purchases, as well as special donations/sponsorship, Tasks are being identified for those who have volunteered to be on the library team, which should burst into action any time now. Watch for regular announcements and updates on the Centrepoint website, and dont forget to bring in your book donations too!
Look for the wall chart showing progress towards our goal of 3,000 book donations. Do your part by sorting books at home and bringing some into Centrepoint to share with everyone. If you have too many books to carry, contact Ian Davies at operation@centrepoint.ch, or send him a text on 076 776 1858.

European Year of VolunteeringThe European Commission had announced that 2011 will be the European Year of Volunteering. Switzerland, including Basel-Stadt and Basel-Land, have joined in this effort to celebrate, recognize and strengthen volunteers and volunteerism and their valuable contributions. Many events are planned throughout 2011. Centrepoint is happy to be an active participant in this endeavor.
