Wintersport in and around Basel-Stadt
It feels like a different era, yet not so long ago, Basel and its region were places for skiing. However, the ski slopes in Reigoldswil and Langenbruck have been closed for some time. The nearest slopes are now located in the Black Forest (including Feldberg, Herrischried, and Todtnau) and in the canton of Solothurn (Balmberg). In fact, most areas below 1,000 meters are no longer used as ski slopes.

Nevertheless, even without ski slopes, winter sports are still possible in many ways in Basel and its surroundings. Sledging, cross-country skiing, and snowshoe hiking are possible even with little snow.
Moreover, the landscape is just as enchanting as in the good old days with ski slopes. Wasserfallen near Reigoldswil, for example, is a source of joy for young and old. And walking in the snow is often just a few tram stops away.
Langenbruck may no longer have ski slopes, but the cross-country trails are still widely used when there is enough snow.
