from Centrepoint and beyond

Olga Märkli, June 2026

This month Olga Märkli is our Volunteer of the Month. Originally from Lima, Peru, she studied architecture and urban planning before moving to Basel more than 30 years ago. Since then Basel has become her home and the place where she discovered her true calling, teaching. After starting a family her connection with the local community led her to offer support and private lessons, which gradually became more formal. Following a course in pedagogy, she dedicated herself fully to education in various institutions, a role that brings her great fulfilment and helps her continue to grow.

At Centrepoint, Olga has come to value the flexibility and richness of working with diverse groups. Inspired by members’ interest in reading, she founded the Spanish Book Club, a space for reading and discussing Spanish literature. She describes Centrepoint as an important part of her journey and is grateful for the chance to share, learn and contribute to such a special community.

For Olga, her students’ progress and happiness are the greatest reward. Her dedication, enthusiasm and drive to keep growing make her an example of commitment and generosity. That is why we are proud to recognise her today as Centrepoint’s Volunteer of the Month and to thank her for all she contributes to our community.
