Fresh Air, Cinema, Music and Sport
August sees Basel life go outdoors, with three major events on offer.
Open-air cinema on the Münsterplatz took off on 30th July, but there’s plenty to enjoy until Tuesday 25th August. For the full program and tickets: https://basel.allianzcinema.ch/en.
Tuesday 4th August sees the start of the Floss Festival at its anchor point near the Mittlererbrücke. There’s music from 21:00 – 22:15 every night until Saturday 22nd August, Sundays excepted. The festival is free-of-charge, but it’s good manners to put something in the collecting bag that is passed around. More info: https://floss.ch/en/
On Friday 14th August, Em Bebbi Sy Jazz kicks off at 18:00 at the Schmiedenhof and Rosshof and ends at 1:00 in the morning on the Marktplatz. This year you can enjoy jazz, blues and 50s rock and roll at 33 locations around the old town. Funk lovers might care to join Centrepoint member Dominic Ferns and the Session Brothers at 10:30 on the Rümelinsplatz. More info: https://www.embebbisyjazz.ch/programm/.
Also in August are the Official Rhine Swim on Tuesday 11th at 18:00 (https://www.bs.ch/en/events/official-basel-rhine-swim) and the FCB home match against Thun on Sunday 9th August, 16:30 (https://fcb.ch/).
