President’s words – June 2026 – Summer in Basel

Dear Centrepointers,

The second half of May was already warm! Summer is back in Basel, with a lot of sunshine. Also at Centrepoint the sun is shining. At the end of April our membership reached 410 households, showing a very nice and also important increase. We are really making the turn-around after the Corona-dip! Every week, in the Weekly Briefing, we can proudly announce many (also new) activities.

Many members participate as a volunteer in these activities, as well as supporting the apéro’s, the vernissages, the coffee mornings etc. This is all very encouraging so let’s not forget to tell our friends and family about it. Centrepoint is growing again and full of activity. Maybe they are considering becoming members  too!

The only concern I have at the moment is that although the new website is highly appreciated, advertisement income is down. What can you do to help the adteam and connect them with potential new advertisers? Do you know anybody, any company or institution that would be interested to be on the website of the largest international club in the Basel area? In summer I like the hiking and biking in the Basel area. Every time, it makes me realise that we live in a beautiful corner of the world! At Centrepoint, our Sunday Walkers go out for a hike in the Basel countryside every 3^rd Sunday of the month. The walks are around 2 hours and the starting and end points are accessible by public transport. If you wish to find out more please check the website or contact sundaywalkers@centrepoint.ch

Swimming in the Rhine is Basel’s most popular sport in summer. A summer in Basel without swimming in the Rhine is not a complete summer! A good place to enter is the riverbank just below Museum Tinguely. From there you can float around 3 kilometres down the river and when you get out, simply enjoy a cup of coffee or a refreshing drink. This year the official ‘Rheinschwimmen’ is on Tuesday 11^th August at 18:00hrs.

The other event that I would like to mention is the Open-Air Kino at the Münsterplatz. This year it is from 30^th July until 24^th August. I am sure that our group of cinema lovers at Centrepoint is going to be present there. If you join this group’s WhatsApp group, you will receive updates on cinema outings and you can post your own movie night ideas. Just send your mobile phone number to cinema@centrepoint.ch
