School’s out for Summer
Start the holidays with a visit to Sommerblues or the HillChill!
School holidays across the border in Germany are always heralded on the radio by Alice Cooper’s hit “School’s out for Summer”. In Basel, on the other hand, the start of the holidays always brings live, open-air music.
Friday 26th June sees Kleinbasel’s Sommerblues take to the streets between Claraplatz, Rheingasse and Wettsteinplatz. Six venues offer the finest in Swiss and European blues free of charge from 18:00 until 00:30. There’s a variety of food and drink, crowds of people and in recent years, fine weather. More information on bands, venues and times at https://summerblues.ch/programm-2026.html.

The HillChill Open-Air Festival, now in its 25th year, takes place on Friday and Saturday 26th and 27th June in the Sarasin Park in Riehen. Two stages offer 19 live bands with the focus on alternative rock and Indie Pop. Tickets for adults are CHF 16 for one day and CHF 28 for both. More information on acts, times and tickets at
